Data that we process automatically
You can use our Planet Wild Services without disclosing much personal data. However, every time you or another user uses our Planet Wild Services, we will automatically process certain personal data (e.g., IP address) as well as other technical data (e.g. operating system version, device type), language, and region. We need your IP address, for example, in order to make it technically possible for you to use our Planet Wild Services at all (Art. 6 para. 1 letter b GDPR).
However, we cannot use this data to identify you directly.
Data that you submit to us voluntarily
You do not have to provide any other personal information. Only if you want to use additional functions of e.g. the Planet Wild App or contact us voluntarily, will we need additional personal data from you. As soon as you enter personal data (such as name, address, email address) on our Planet Wild Website or into our Planet Wild App, this will therefore occur on a voluntary basis.

We will also process data about your usage behavior in order to continuously improve our Planet Wild Services, providing you consent to this processing (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR). For this purpose we analyze the usage behavior of all users. Such usage data allows us to determine, for example, how many users are accessing our Planet Wild Website or the Planet Wild App at the same time, which functions they use, and which elements and functions are especially popular. These usage profiles are pseudonymized. Under normal circumstances, we therefore cannot draw conclusions about you or your use of the Planet Wild Services. In addition, we will process these data to provide you with personalized/targeted advertising from our advertising partners. However, in this case too, we will do so only with your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR).
For these purposes we use cookies and technologies that work similarly to cookies.
In some cases, we work together with partners who process these data on our behalf. These partners sometimes process data outside the European Economic Area, in particular in the United States.

Changes to data privacy policy
1. General information about data processing
1.1 Important terms. "Personal data" means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; an identifiable person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier, such as a name, identification number, location data, online identifier (e.g., a cookie), or one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural, or social identity of that natural person.
"Processing" means any operation or set of operations which is performed on personal data, whether or not by automated process. In practice, this term covers most cases in which data are used in some way.
"Controller" means the natural person or legal entity, public authority, agency, or other body which, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of processing personal data.
1.2 Legal bases. Under Art. 13 GDPR, you must be informed on what legal basis your data are processed. If the legal basis is not mentioned in this Data Privacy Policy, the following applies:
The legal basis for processing data on the basis of consent is Art. 6 para. 1 letter a and Art. 7 GDPR, the legal basis for processing data for the purpose of providing our services, the performance of agreed measures, and responding to inquiries is Art. 6 para. 1 letter b GDPR, the legal basis for processing data for the purpose of performing our legal obligations is Art. 6 para. 1 letter c GDPR, and the legal basis for processing data on the basis of our legitimate interests is Art. 6 para. 1 letter f GDPR. Should vital interests of a data subject or another natural person require the processing of personal data, such data will be processed on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 letter d GDPR.
1.3 Cooperation with processors and third parties. If in the course of our data processing we disclose data to any other persons or companies, transfer data to them, or grant them access to data in any other way, this will be done only if permitted by law. If we transfer your data to a payment service provider, for example, this will serve the purpose of performing our contract with you and will be covered by Art. 6 para. 1 letter b GDPR. A data transfer may also take place if you have given your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR), if we have a legal obligation to transfer data (Art. 6 para. 1 letter c GDPR), or if we have a legitimate interest in transferring data (Art. 6 para. 1 letter f GDPR).
In some cases, we use other companies as processors. For this purpose we enter into "data processing agreements" on the basis of Art. 28 GDPR.
1.4 Data transfer to third countries. We use cloud services. We will therefore transfer your data to a cloud services provider and your data will be processed there. In some cases, data will also be processed by our service providers in so-called third countries. These are countries outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). This is done either to perform our (pre-) contractual obligations, on the basis of your consent, on the basis of a legal obligation, or on the basis of our legitimate interests. However, such processing will only take place if the special requirements of Art. 44 et seq. GDPR are satisfied. An adequate level of data protection will be ensured in these cases, as well. This is because we require our service providers to agree to special contractual obligations that ensure a level of data protection comparable to that in the EU (so-called "EU standard contractual clauses") and agree on additional organizational and technical measures if necessary.
1.5. Erasure of data. We erase or restrict the processing of personal data in accordance with Art. 17 and 18 GDPR. Stored data are generally erased when they are no longer needed for their intended purpose, unless erasure would conflict with legal recordkeeping obligations. We restrict data processing if data cannot be erased because they will be used for other, lawful purposes. This means that data are blocked and not processed for other purposes. This applies, for example, to data that must be retained for any commercial or tax law reasons.
In Germany data are stored for 6 years in accordance with § 257 para. 1 of the German Commercial Code (HGB) (commercial accounts, inventories, opening balance sheets, annual financial statements, commercial correspondence, accounting vouchers, etc.) and for 10 years in accordance with § 147 para. 1 of the German Tax Code (AO) (books, records, management reports, accounting vouchers, commercial and business correspondence, tax-related documents, etc.).
To the extent that our Data Privacy Policy expressly informs you when data will be erased, these specific provisions regarding the time of erasure are, of course, controlling.
1.6 Data security. All data transfers between your end device and our servers or the servers of our service providers will be encrypted. We use commercially available encryption techniques to ensure that your data transfers are secure. We also follow the principle of data economy and try to collect and store only as much of your personal data as is necessary for providing our services.
2. Technically necessary data processing. In the course of providing our services we process data to the extent technically necessary. This includes, for example, server logs, firewall logs, etc., for example at our hosting partner AWS. In connection with these logs, basic connection data are stored, such as
- time of access
- IP address of the terminal device
- resource requested
3. Registration and login. If you want to use our Planet Wild Services to the full extent, you must register. We process registration data for the initiation and performance of the user agreement (Art. 6 para. 1 letter b GDPR). There are several ways to register for and log into Planet Wild Services:
3.1. Email. You can register with your email address. For this purpose we will process your first and last name, as well as your email address. After you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email from us, which will contain a link (Magic Link) protected via HTTPS which you can use to log in to the Planet Wild App.
4. Hosting (AWS). We use the cloud services of Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, 38 avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855, Luxembourg (hereinafter "AWS"), for hosting the Planet Wild Services. This company provides us with the following services: Infrastructure and platform services, computing capacity, storage and database services, and security and technical maintenance services. AWS processes inventory data, contact data, content data, contract data, usage data, and meta and communication data of our users and interested parties on our behalf. This is done on the basis of our legitimate interest in making our Planet Wild Services available in an efficient and secure manner, Art. 6 para. 1 letter f GDPR in conjunction with Art. 28 GDPR (data processing agreement). If and to the extent data are transferred to servers in so-called third countries, the appropriate level of data protection will be ensured via EU standard contractual clauses and, to the extent necessary, via additional organizational and technical measures.
5. Communication by us If you contact us directly and you have questions or comments about the Planet Wild Services or your user agreement, your data will be processed for the purpose of initiating or performing our contract with you (Art. 6 para. 1 letter b GDPR). For other topics, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in being able to appropriately respond to your general inquiries (Art. 6 para. 1 letter f GDPR). Your data will be erased as soon as your inquiry has been addressed and there are no legal recordkeeping obligations.
6. Subscription for and cancellation of newsletter (Customer.io). Below you will find information about the content of our newsletter as well as the subscription, mailing, and statistical analysis process and about your right of objection. By subscribing to our newsletter, you agree to receive the newsletter and to the described processes.
Content of the newsletter: We send newsletters, emails, and other electronic notifications containing advertising information (hereinafter referred to as the "Newsletter") only with the consent of recipients or if permitted by law. If the content of the Newsletter is specifically described when you sign up for the Newsletter, this description will be controlled for purposes of the user's consent. Furthermore, our Newsletter contains information about our products, offers, and promotions, and about our company.
Double-opt-in and logging: Subscription to our Newsletter involves a so-called double-opt-in procedure. This means that after subscription you will receive an email asking you to confirm your subscription. This confirmation is necessary so that nobody can subscribe using an email address of a third party. Subscriptions to the newsletter are logged in order to be able to document the subscription process in compliance with legal requirements. This includes logging the time of subscription and confirmation time as well as the IP address. In addition, any changes to your data stored at Customer.io will be logged.
Subscription data: You can subscribe to the newsletter by activating the newsletter via the Planet Wild App or Website.
Mailing services provider: Peaberry Software Inc. d/b/a Customer.io 9450 SW Gemini Dr., Suite 43920, Beaverton, Oregon 97ßß8-7105, which operates the service Customer.io (hereinafter "Customer.io"), is responsible for mailing the newsletter.
Collection and analysis of statistical data: The newsletters contain a so-called "web-beacon", i.e. a pixel-sized file that is retrieved from the Customer.io server when the newsletter is opened, as well as so-called pixel tags. In the course of this retrieval, technical information such as information about the browser and your operating system, your IP address and the time of the retrieval are collected. Based on the technical data, your reading behavior and the retrieval location (which can be determined with the help of the IP address) can be determined. It is also possible to determine whether the newsletters are opened, when they are opened and which links are clicked. Although this data may be personal data under certain circumstances, a direct assignment to a specific user is impossible in any case.
Customer.io may, according to its own information, use this data in pseudonymous form, i.e. without attribution to a user, to improve its own services, e.g. for technical optimization of the dispatch and presentation of the newsletters or for statistical purposes to determine from which countries the recipients come. Customer.io generates aggregated statistics from this data. However, Customer.io does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to address them itself or to pass them on to third parties. Customer.io is responsible for this data processing.
No Data transfer to third countries: The hosting of the service takes place exclusively in the European Union. Therefore, there is no data transfer to a so-called third country.
Cancellation/revocation: You may cancel your subscription to our Newsletter at any time, i.e., by revoking your consent. By revoking your consent you will automatically also object to the mailing the Newsletter by Customer.io and to statistical analyses. Objecting only to the mailing of our Newsletter by Customer.io or to statistical analyses is unfortunately not an option. You will find a link to cancel your subscription to the Newsletter at the end of each Newsletter, or you can deactivate the Newsletter via the Planet Wild App. After you have canceled your subscription, we will no longer process your email address for this purpose. Unless we need your email address for other purposes, we will erase it.
Legal basis: We will process your email address to send you our Newsletter, if you have consented to receiving the Newsletter (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR). Our use of Customer.io, our collection and analysis of statistical data, as well as our logging of the subscription process are based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 letter f GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to offer you and other users a user-friendly and secure newsletter system that serves our business interests and meets the expectations of users.

Furthermore, certain interactions with the Planet Wild Services are logged. For example, this could be tracking which blog articles are most viewed, how often the app was opened or how often etc. The data logging and analysis happens in an anonymized form. Amplitude helps us understand how visitors use our services.
The information collected by Amplitude Inc. is transferred to servers of Amplitude Inc. in the United States and processed there. Our contract with Amplitude Inc. includes EU standard contractual clauses and additional measures to ensure an adequate level of data privacy.

We use RudderStack technologies based on your consent pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR. RudderStack serves us as a central data management tool for data from various sources, such as our Planet Wild Website or Planet Wild App. This tool helps us to centrally clean and organize our users' data. We also use this tool to transfer the processed data sets to the various third-party tools (such as Analytics services). This makes it easier for us to work with the various third-party tools and enables us to process the data sets entrusted to us in a secure, privacy compliant and controlled manner.
The storage and processing of the data takes place in our IT infrastructure, so that the data is transmitted only to the data processor , which provides our IT infrastructure. Our IT infrastructure is hosted exclusively on servers in the European Union.
You can find more information about data protection at RudderStack at:
https://www.rudderstack.com/privacy-policy
7.1.3. Sentry.io (Web and App SDK). We use Sentry for our Planet Wild App. This service of Functional Software, Inc. (132 Hawthorne Street, San Francisco, California 94107, U.S.A.) enables us to monitor the stability of our Planet Wild App and Website to detect code errors or exceptions in order to improve our Planet Wild App and Website (Art. 6 para. 1 letter f GDPR). Data of Planet Wild users (such as information about the device used or the time of an error) are collected anonymously, are not used in relation to any particular users, and are then erased.
You can find more information about data processing by Sentry at the following link:
7.2 Website only
7.2.1 Cookiebot (Web). We use Cookiebot, a consent management platform provided by Usercentrics A/S, Havnegade 39, 1058 Copenhagen, Denmark. Cookiebot helps us ensure that our website complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by managing user consents and controlling the loading of cookies based on user preferences. We use Cookiebot based on your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
When you visit our website, Cookiebot enables us to provide transparent information about the cookies and trackers in use, allowing you to give, refuse, or withdraw your consent to the use of cookies. Cookiebot automatically scans our website to identify and classify cookies and other tracking technologies, helping to maintain an up-to-date and accurate cookie declaration.
The data collected through Cookiebot is used solely for the purpose of compliance documentation required by GDPR. Data about user consent is stored on servers located in the European Union and is retained for up to 12 months from the date of consent or until consent is withdrawn.
For more information about how Cookiebot manages data and user consent, you can visit the Cookiebot privacy policy at: https://www.cookiebot.com/en/privacy-policy
7.2.2. Google Analytics 4 (Web). On our Planet Wild Website we use Google Analytics in the version Universal Analytics 4 (a service of Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland ("Google")). We use Google Analytics based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR or Section§ 15 para. 3 TMG). With this service we pursue the goal of improving our Planet Wild Website and our customer approach. Google Analytics works with cookies and similar technologies. Different "events" (e.g. newsletter registration) and "screens" are recorded.
With these tools, we recognize how you use our Planet Wild Website, your interactions with the Planet Wild Website (e.g. page views, links clicked, visitor flow), technical data (e.g. crashes) and some user characteristics (e.g. what device and operating system you have and demographic user information such as your language).
Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate your use of our Planet Wild Website, to compile reports on the activities and to provide us with further services related to the use of our Planet Wild Website and internet use. The processed data is used to create pseudonymous user profiles of the users. The collected data will be deleted 14 months after collection at the latest.
The information thus generated is usually transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Here, too, an adequate level of data protection is ensured, as we have concluded so-called EU standard contract clauses with Google. By means of the IP anonymization procedure activated by us, the recorded IP addresses are also shortened beforehand by Google within the European Union. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. The IP address transmitted from your terminal device within the scope of Google Analytics is not merged with other data from Google.
You can prevent the collection and processing of information at any time with effect for the future by declaring your so-called opt-out. This means that you withdraw your consent to the collection and processing of data within the scope of these Google tools. If you do not want this data processing, you can click on this link so that a cookie is stored in your browser which will prevent the collection by Google Analytics in the future when you visit our Planet Wild Website. Please note that this will only prevent data collection in your current browser.
Alternatively, you can also install a browser plug-in, which you can find here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/. The revocation of consent does not affect the legality of the processing of the data that was carried out on the basis of the consent until the revocation.
You can find more information on how Google handles the data we transfer to them here:
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245
https://www.google.com/intl/de/policies/privacy/partners/

Hotjar is a behavioral analytics and user feedback tool that helps us understand how users interact with our website through the use of techniques such as heatmaps, session recordings, and surveys. We use Hotjar based on your consent in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR.

The data gathered by Hotjar is stored in a pseudonymized user profile. Neither Hotjar nor we will ever use this information to identify individual users or to match it with further data on an individual user. Furthermore, Hotjar is contractually forbidden from selling any of the data collected on our behalf.
For more information on the data practices of Hotjar, please visit the Hotjar privacy policy at:
https://www.hotjar.com/legal/policies/privacy/
If you wish to opt-out of Hotjar’s data collection, you can find information on how to do so at:
https://www.hotjar.com/legal/compliance/opt-out
8. Targeted advertising by us and with the help of processors/third parties
8.1. Google Ads. We use the marketing and remarketing service Google Ads on our Planet Wild Website, which is also operated by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. We carry out the associated data processing on the basis of your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR). You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future. Simply use one of the listed opt-out possibilities. Google is directly responsible for parts of the data processing.
With the help of Google Ads, we can play advertisements for our Planet Wild App and Planet Wild Website in the Google search. Google Ads enables us to determine certain keywords. A Google Ad in the search engine results of Google will only be displayed if you retrieve a keyword relevant search result with the search engine. In the Google Ad network, the ads are distributed to topic-relevant Internet pages by means of an automatic algorithm and in accordance with the keywords previously defined. When you click on a Google Ad and are thus redirected to our Planet Wild Website or to an App Store, Google sets a remarketing tag and a conversion cookie on your device. This may be a cookie or similar technology. If you then visit another website from the Google Ads network, for example, this remarketing tag will be processed, and you will receive a suitable advertising message. The conversion cookie allows us to determine how many users perform a particular action through one of our ads.
This data is processed pseudonymously in connection with Google Ads. This means that Google does not store and process e.g. your name or e-mail address but processes the relevant data cookie- or ID-related within pseudonymous user profiles. These are not directly attributable to you. Neither we nor Google know who you are. The Google Ads are therefore shown for the owner of a certain ID.
The information collected in the context of Google Ads is transmitted to Google and stored on Google's servers in the USA. We have concluded EU standard contractual clauses with Google to ensure an adequate level of data protection
You can use your browser settings to prevent cookies from being set at any time. This also prevents the cookies associated with Google Ads from being stored on your device. You can delete any cookies already on your device.
You also have the possibility to prevent interest-based advertising by Google. For this purpose you can make the desired settings at www.google.de/settings/ads.
Finally, you can also set a corresponding opt-out cookie at https://optout.networkadvertising.org/?c=1#!/.
8.2. Meta Pixel. On our Planet Wild Website we use the so-called "Meta Pixel" of the social network Facebook / Instagram, which is operated by Meta Platforms Inc., 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA, or if you are located in the EU, Meta Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland ("Meta"). We also use this tool based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 letter a GDPR).
We have concluded EU standard contract clauses with Meta. This guarantees that a level of protection comparable to European data protection law exists.
The Meta Pixel enables Meta to define you and other visitors to our Planet Wild Website as a target group for ads (so-called "Meta Ads"). We therefore use the Meta Pixel to achieve a better customer approach on Meta. This is because the Meta Ads placed by us are only played out to those Meta users who have also shown an interest in our offers or have certain characteristics (e.g. interests in certain topics or products determined by the websites visited, so-called "custom audiences"). In this way, we also want to ensure that our Meta Ads match your interest and are not annoying. Finally, the inclusion of the Meta Pixel allows us to track the effectiveness of Meta Ads for statistical and market research purposes. This is because it allows us to see whether you have been redirected to our Planet Wild Website after clicking on a Facebook / Instagram Ad (so-called "conversion").
When you visit our Planet Wild Website, based on consent choice, the Meta Pixel is loaded. This means that a cookie is stored on your device. If you then log on to Facebook / instagram or if you are logged on to Facebook / Instagram when you visit our Planet Wild Website, your visit to our Planet Wild Website will also be recorded in your Meta profile. However, the data is immediately converted into numerical chains when it is collected ("hashed"). This data therefore does not allow us to draw any direct conclusions about you. However, we would like to point out that this data is also stored and processed by Meta. Meta may use this information for its own market research and advertising purposes. We have no influence on this.
To control the types of ads you see on Meta platforms, you can go to this Facebook page and follow the instructions on usage-based advertising settings: www.facebook.com/settings. The settings are platform-independent, which means that they apply to all devices, such as desktop computers or mobile devices.
The Meta Data Policy applies to data processing by Meta. It contains general information on the display of Meta Ads: www.facebook.com/policy.php.
You can find more information about the Meta Pixel and how it works, in the Meta help area: www.facebook.com/business/help/651294705016616.

Stripe will process all information from you that is needed for a successful payment transaction, including your name, email address, mailing address, and other billing and payment information. This usually involves the following data: your name, address, email address, phone and mobile number, and IP address.

You can find more information about data processing by PayPal at the following link:
https://www.paypal.com/de/webapps/mpp/ua/privacy-full/
10. Integration of services and content. In some cases, we integrate content from third parties into our Planet Wild Services, such as videos or selected articles. When you access such third-party content, data will be transferred to the third-party content provider. We identify all third-party content. You consent that if you access third-party content, your data may be processed by the third-party content provider. We have no influence on data processing by third-party content providers.
11. Right of objection. You may also object to processing of your personal data at any time in accordance with applicable law. You may object, in particular, to processing of your data for the purpose of direct advertising. If we provide you with an opt-out option in this Data Privacy Policy or the Planet Wild App, you can simply exercise your right of objection that way.
12. Right to revoke consent. You may revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future. All you need to do is send us an informal email or use one of the opt-out options we make available to you. The lawfulness of data processing that took place up to the date of revocation will remain unaffected by your revocation.
13. Rights of data subjects
13.1. Information. Under Art. 15 GDPR you have the right to request information as to whether and how your personal data are being processed, and to receive additional information and a copy of your data.

Under Art. 20 GDPR you have the right to have data that we process automatically on the basis of your consent or in performance of a contract turned over to you or to a third party in a standard, machine-readable format. If you request a direct transfer of your data to another responsible party, this will be done if and to the extent technically feasible.
13.5. Right to lodge a complaint. If you suspect that your personal data are processed unlawfully, you may lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. The competent supervisory authority for matters of data privacy law is the State Data Protection Commissioner of the German state in which our company is based.
14. Changes to our Data Privacy Policy. Our Data Privacy Policy as last revised informs you of current data processing in connection with our Planet Wild services. If there are any changes to our services or our data processing procedures, or if there are any changes in law, we will be required to modify this Data Privacy Policy as appropriate. However, this applies only to information about data processing. If your consent was required or if provisions of this Data Privacy Policy relate to our contract with you, we will, of course, make no changes to these provisions without your consent. Please keep abreast of any changes to this Data Privacy Policy on a regular basis.
