Three years in: Introducing the Planet Wild 2026 Update

Three years ago, Planet Wild was a small idea backed by just 12 people.
Today, more than 20,000 members are helping fund rewilding missions worldwide. Together, we’ve directed almost €2.5 million to our partners across 37 missions. And our YouTube channel is about to reach 500,000 subscribers.
That’s a big change in a very short time.
As Planet Wild has grown, so has our responsibility. We’ve gone from a bold experiment to a real force in the rewilding space, and that means we need to keep improving how we work, how we make decisions, and how we show our impact.
So today, we’re excited to announce the Planet Wild 2026 Update: the first major update to Planet Wild, our structure, and our app since 2024.
Over the last months, we’ve been really cookin’ in the background. Now it’s time to show you what’s new.
1. Long-term impact updates
Rewilding takes time.
That’s why we’re introducing 3-year and 10-year impact updates for all Planet Wild missions, so you can follow what happens long after a mission goes live.
This is a big step for transparency and for understanding the true long-term effect of restoration work. Not every result shows up in a few weeks or months. Some of the most important changes in nature only become visible years later.
The first 3-year updates are already live in the Mission Reports for Mission 1 and Mission 2 on our website, and more will follow.

2. A new voting system
We’re also introducing a new voting system that gives every member more control over how their money is used. All members can choose between two categories:
- Field Work
- Community Growth
That means you can now decide for yourself how your contribution is allocated. Want all of your membership to go directly into field work? You can do that.
Want to dedicate a percentage to growing the Planet Wild community through YouTube collaborations, so we can bring more people into the movement and fund even more rewilding work over time? You can do that too.
This update gives you full control, while enabling us build both immediate impact and long-term momentum. This feature will be rolled out next week in the Planet Wild app.

3. A new quarterly Community Vote
Next week, we’re shipping a major update to the Planet Wild app. One of the biggest new features is the quarterly Community Vote.
Every three months, members will be able to vote for one mission to receive an additional €10,000 in support.
This means that on top of our regular mission model, the community will now also have a recurring chance to push extra support toward the projects they believe in most.
We’re really excited about this one. It gives members an even stronger voice and creates a new moment every quarter for the whole community to rally behind a mission together.

4. Better mission selection criteria
After 37 partnerships, we’ve learned a lot.
So we’re now launching updated mission selection criteria for future Planet Wild missions, based on everything we’ve learned in the field, behind the scenes, and through working with partner organizations around the world. But that’s not all.
In the background, we’re also rolling out a new due diligence process, including a universal scoreboard built around a Planet Wild standard that all upcoming missions will need to meet.
On top of that, we’re introducing a pre-partnership due diligence questionnaire for potential partner organizations.
In short: we’re getting sharper, more consistent, and more rigorous about how missions are assessed before they ever become part of Planet Wild.
That helps us protect quality, improve decision-making, and build a stronger foundation for the future.
5. More frequent financial reporting
Transparency has always been a core part of Planet Wild.
Starting in the second quarter of 2026, we’re moving from annual financial reporting to quarterly reporting.
That means you’ll get a more frequent and clearer view of how money flows through Planet Wild and where it goes.
You can already see the new slot on the transparency page.
As we continue to grow, we want our transparency to grow with us. More frequent financials are an important part of that.
6. No profit commitment
As you know, Planet Wild currently uses a 15% of the Rewilding Membership to cover our costs. So far this not enough to cover all of our cost, but some members have asked what happens if this covers our costs.
So going forward, we’re making a clear commitment: we will never generate profits through our Rewilding Membership. If it ever covers all of our expenses, we will reduce it accordingly.
This is the next chapter of Planet Wild
Planet Wild is not the same project it was three years ago. It’s bigger. More experienced. More ambitious. And more aware of what it takes to build something that lasts. These updates are about doing exactly that.
They’re about making Planet Wild more transparent, more participatory, and more robust as we grow.
They’re about building a better experience for members, stronger systems for our team, and better long-term outcomes for the wild places and species we’re all here to protect.
To everyone who has been part of this journey so far: thank you. Whether you joined when there were 12 backers or 20,000 members, you helped build this. And we’re just getting started.
We’d love to hear what you think about the 2026 Update.
